Cerro Yamakawa belongs to the group of peaks around Loma Larga. It is hidden in a side valley of the Cajón Morado. It is between Punta Italia and Loma Larga.

It has an old ascent of Oyarzún & Pardo and a new of Mondragón & Morales.

Ascent to South face Cerro Yamakawa. Red line: New route; "Realidad Paralela". D. 700 m 65º 5.5. by Francisco Morales and Eduardo Mondragón. December 2004. 7.5 h from base camp (3.800 m) to peak and return to base camp. Blue line: Pardo-Oyarzun route.

Location: Cajón Cortaderas, east of the Laguna del Morado (Cajón Morado), close to Cerro Cortaderas and Punta Italia. Cerro Yamakawa is the first peak, looking from left to right in the group of peaks around the Cajón Cortaderas.
Access: Baños Morales, 6hrs. from below, 5h from end of road to base camp
Route: Cross Cortaderas glaciar then climb snow fields up to 65º and the rock steps towards the top.
